18th century reverse print on glass after Thomas Murray (Scottish, 1663-1734), "Captain Edward Rigby of Leyton in Lancashire". Print is losing adhesion to glass in spots; frame is warped. Rigby, a successful captain of the Royal Navy, was imprisoned for sodomy in 1698. After serving his sentence, he fled Britain and entered French service, fighting against Britain in the War of the Spanish Succession.
