Bronze lepton of Alexander Jannaeus, Hasmonean King of Judaea ca. 103-76 BC, in sleeve with Certificate of Authenticity from Robin Danziger. The lepton was the smallest and lowest value Judaean coin and was still circulating in Palestine in biblical times. In Mark 12:41-44, Jesus praises a widow who cast two such lepta into the temple treasury: "Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."
